Founder Message
A message from CEMPD’s founding vision — participatory environmental stewardship since 2002.
CEMPD was founded on a simple observation: environmental programmes imposed from outside rarely outlive their funding. Lasting change comes when the people who depend on a resource — a pond, a forest, a field — are the ones who study it, decide on it and defend it.
Over the years our work has evolved from participatory natural resource management into a broad sustainable-development mandate: water, sustainable agriculture, poverty alleviation, sanitation, health, nutrition, education, livelihoods, social development, research, advocacy and community participation.
Named founder statements and personal biographies are published here only when formally verified by the organisation. Until then, this page shares the founding purpose that continues to guide CEMPD’s work in West Bengal and beyond.
